According to a recent survey conducted by Visa, men will spend more than women on Valentine's Day gifts. While the spending trend is up when it comes to guys doing the gifting, women are actually forking over less and less for presents, and compensating with emotional gifts, such as a heart-felt sentiment on a card.
People on lower income brackets will also spend more than the wealthier on this holiday, and new couples will spend more than ones who have been together for longer.

The pressure in on younger people too; older folks don't always feel it's necessary to give gifts or take their couple on a date.
